Casio G-Shock Special Jyuryoku Maru -Sun- 重力丸－燦－MRG-B2000JS-1ADR - Japanese Traditions Meet Technology

This stunning G-Shock is inspired by the Japanese craftsmanship of forging katana swords, as part of the flagship MR-G watch collection, which honors the traditions of craftsmanship.

This watch is dedicated to traditional Japanese crafting techniques that have been preserved from generation to generation for centuries. It celebrates the unique traditions and aesthetic values of Japanese swords, featuring the Juryoku-Maru: San sword, a katana commissioned by Casio for the MR-G collection. "San," the Japanese word for "brilliant," reflects the glow of the sword's blade and its sheath decorated with shell inlays.

The bezel, made of recrystallized hybrid titanium, mimics the unique pattern of the blade forged by master swordsmith Kamiyama Teruhira. This pattern is created with layers of pure and Ti64 titanium that have been recrystallized, cut, polished, and treated with a deep-layer hardening process to preserve the unique features of the pattern.

Subtle differences in materials and processing conditions, as well as 燦 (San), the Japanese character hand-engraved on the back of the watch by the master himself, make each watch entirely unique, and no two pieces are identical.

After recrystallization and deep-layer hardening, a blue-gray AIP® coating is added to the pure titanium's center case, reflecting the blue hue of the Juryoku-Maru: San sword.

The watch's bracelet showcases the aogai-nuri blue shell lacquer pattern designed by artist Nomura Mamoru, which decorates the sheath of the Juryoku-Maru: San sword. This has been achieved using a special processing technique developed specifically for this watch. Aogai-nuri involves mother-of-pearl inlay, often used in Japanese sword sheaths.

The bracelet, made from DAT55G titanium alloy, is finished with a structural coloring technique that employs ultra-precise microprocessing to create iridescent colors inspired by the aogai-nuri blue shell lacquer. The special DAT55G alloy, which is three times harder than pure titanium, protects against scratches and wear, preserving the stunning mirror finish and structural color flawlessly for years to come.

More than a tribute to a beautiful tradition, this watch also offers excellent modern functionality. Equipped with Bluetooth® connectivity to a smartphone, the watch adjusts itself to radio wave signals for precise timekeeping and includes convenient functions thanks to Casio's original technology.

This special MR-G honors both traditional craftsmanship and modern technology from Japan — all in a watch inspired by the katana sword.

Kamiyama Teruhira
The exceptionally talented young swordsmith Kamiyama is at the pinnacle of modern katana in Japan. Kamiyama's pursuit of the power and beauty of the Japanese sword reflects Casio's vision of G-SHOCK, and for this reason, Casio commissioned a sword from the master craftsman to create the unique G-SHOCK sword, Juryoku-Maru: San.

Nomura Mamoru
The third-generation leader of Kyoto's SAGARADEN NOMURA. Nomura joined the family business at the age of 20. After studying urushi lacquer techniques, he personally performs every stage of the process, from painting to decoration (mother-of-pearl inlay and metal powder maki-e). In 2018, Nomura received the Chairman's Award from Japan's Traditional Craftsmen for a lacquered natsume (matcha container).
