Garmin - company history

Garmin is an American brand founded in 1989 by Gary Burrell and Min H. Kao, originally known as ProNav. Later, the brand name was changed to Garmin, which consists of a combination of the founders' first names. In the early days, the company developed GPS units that were even manufactured for use by the US military. In 1999, Garmin and AirCell joined forces, and the development of flight communication, navigation and safety equipment for the aviation industry began.

Garmin continued to grow and made new territorial conquests through successful acquisitions. In 2006, Dynastream Innovation was acquired by Garmin, which brought personal ANT and ANT+ tracking technology to the company. This enabled, for example, the development of various Garmin heart rate monitors, activity meters and wireless devices. In addition, the company acquired mobile weather solutions to support devices intended for use by pilots and outdoor sports enthusiasts.
